Madison Scouts Making Big Moves for 2010
I've always been a big fan of the Madison Scouts drum and bugle corps, and it's been breaking my heart to see them slip over the past few years. I'm an alumnus of the Santa Clara Vanguard, and I always felt that there were two corps that just carried themselves with a class that was undefinably different than other corps in the activity: SCV and the Scouts. I loved watching the Scouts, but they haven't been themselves lately.Well, I just read that they've made a big staffing move, bringing Jim Mason on board to define the artistic program for the corps. James Mason was a founder of the Star of Indiana corps, won a DCI title with them, and went on to do some really fun and interesting stuff with live theater after he left the drum corps activity. He's an icon, and now he's joining the Madison Scouts.
Plus, the Scouts have announced their show for the 2010 summer marching season. It's bringing back two Madison classics, Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue and Rodgers' Slaughter on Tenth Avenue.
Sweet. Go Madison Corps!
